Like previous vintages from the Porter Creek Winery, this 2003 Carignane smells of dark ripe fruits at first, moving into soft tannins. Aromas found in this wine are highly concentrated due to the extremely low yield of one ton of fruit per vineyard acre.
The depth of character in this Porter Creek vintage comes from the very old vines producing the fruit for the wine. Old county records show that these particular vines where planted as far back as 1908.
Owned and operated by a father and son team, Porter Creek is a winery vineyard estate located in the Russian River Valley. The son, Alex Davis carries on the wine making tradition started by his father, George, in the 1970’s.
Our food pairing suggestions include those with rich flavors like grilled lamb chops or roasted game hens. This truly is an exceptional wine as there were only 350 cases produced at the winery.
