This authentic Portuguese Vintage Port from the Douro Valley region pours deep and solid red. There is opulent dark fruit on a nose which is quite open. Lots of grape character and dried fruit flavors. Follows through to a full-bodied palate, with very sweet fruit and a plummy finish. Good texture, silky tannins grip gently but not excessively, with ripe acidity. This Vintage Port has delightful development in the mouth complete with a gentle but complex aftertaste.
For hundreds of years Vintage Ports have been prized by wine lovers all over the world. In order to be considered a "Vintage Port" the wine must be barrel aged for 2-3 years before bottling and then allowed to age in the bottle for many more years. This additional aging time allows the higher alcohol content to mellow and become more subdued, helping to develop the genuine character of the rich, full flavors.
This special treat pairs great with Stilton or Gorgonzola cheese, dried fruits, or rich dark chocolate.
