Benson Ferry Vineyards produced a 2001 Chardonnay with refreshing aromas of green apple and lemon and a hint of kiwi. The apple and citrus flavors gain complexity from subtle vanilla cream flavors. The wonderful fruit flavors and smooth texture continue through the lingering crisp finish of this Chardonnay.
The North Coast vineyard sources for this wine are located primarily in Mendocino County. A cool climate and long growing season enabled the grapes for this Chardonnay to develop rich apple and citrus characters while retaining nicely balanced acidity.
The juice was fermented entirely in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh varietal character. The young wine was then aged in a mixture of American and French oak barrels for only four months to develop complexity and complement its forward fruit. The wine was bottled in September 2002.
